MyBiz.am Upgrade Unveiled

NEW ORLEANS --  WAEM WIRED unveiled its upgraded and updated MyBiz.am website Thursday at Workforce Innovations 2008.

“Asked by the U.S. Department of Labor to demonstrate our innovative MyBiz web tool at Innovations, we decided this would be a great time to unveil our many improvements,” said Bill Crawford, director of the West Alabama – East Mississippi (WAEM) WIRED Initiative.

The unveiling occurred during the ‘Growing Entrepreneurs in Rural America’ presentation made by WAEM partners:  Lyn Stabler, representing the Mississippi Technology Alliance; Shane Givens, representing the University of Alabama; Bruce Hanson, representing East Mississippi Community College; and Chris Reed and Crawford from the Montgomery Institute which manages the WAEM programs and developed the MyBiz tool.

“MyBiz.am is a great tool,” said Hanson, “but it is useless unless communities and entrepreneurs know about it.”  Hanson discussed the importance of connecting local entrepreneurs to the MyBiz Network and highlighted the unique “Start It!” card developed for each and every community in the 37-county WAEM Region.

Built around an innovative search engine developed by U.S. Sourcelink, MyBiz.am has become more streamlined with enhanced features, an upgraded visual presentation, and additional resources and content.  The website now features over 125 Resource Partners who provide services to entrepreneurs in West Alabama and East Mississippi.  The “Finance Fly-By” provides a quick overview of public loan programs that entrepreneurs may qualify for.  In the new Community Connections section, users can click on a county and a community, download the Start-It Card, and print and carry this card with them through the business start-up process.
